Quoting Movies

victoria-blog

I was hanging out with friends last night and someone brought up a movie. This guy starts quoting a good portion of it, even doing the different voices and pauses in the right spots. It was hilarious.

There are plenty of times that I hear people saying long paragraphs of movie quotes. And, I can’t do it! I remember songs from movies, so Disney totally had my back. But other than that, I might remember one line.

What about you? Is there a movie you can quote? What is your favorite movie quote?

To Adopt or Not to Adopt?

victoria-blog

There are around 140 million orphans worldwide.

I am all for people having their own biological children, as I am grateful that my parents had me and my sisters. I am equally grateful that 6 of the most awesome people ever entered my life.

So are their cons to adopting? Um…yep. It’s not all ease and comfort. Anyone who adopts knows that it comes with a ton of sacrifice. It’s difficult on parents because if the child is not a baby, he or she has memories before you, which probably are not all great. And even if the child comes into your arms as a baby, there are physical and personality traits that may not match yours.  Then if you already have kids, you have the balance of making sure your biological kids are adjusting to the new additions. Not to mention, there will be extra costs. Wow…sounds like quite the hassle, huh?

But…TOTALLY worth it. The adoption of my brothers was not always the easiest thing, and there have been tears shed in past years over the struggle. Now I see how it taught me so much about life and giving. Adoption can teach your biological children that it’s good to care for those who can not help themselves. Adoption is claiming someone who didn’t really belong to you. You see that someone is lost and without, so you bring them in.You invite them into your home, your memories, and your heart.

So to adopt or not to adopt? to adopt

Can you make yourself a morning person?

victoria-blogMy life this morning

At 5:30 am, my alarm goes off on my cell phone. I reach down beside my bed and muster up enough coherence to change my alarm to 6:30 instead. The plans I had the night before of going for a morning run or getting laundry done can wait until after work. 6:30 came soon after, and by soon, I mean way too soon. I reach over and think:noo way. I press the snooze button once. This then happens every five minutes until 7:15. During these 45 minutes I told myself things like: Victoria, how long does it really take you to get ready? You will be much happier if you sleep longer. You will be so cold if you get out of bed.

I read an article about running in the morning. It was telling the reader that if you wake up and run in the morning, you will be more alert during the day and sleep better at night. In return, this will make it easier to wake up in the morning.

I have found this to be true when I actually do it. Any morning people out there? Are you able to wake up and go running before your day begins? If so…tell me your secret!

I hate halloween. I love the fall.

victoria-blogYep. It’s almost Halloween-my least favorite holiday.

I don’t like being greeted by a laughing witch when I enter a store. I don’t like any scary movies. I don’t like the idea of kids being dressed up like monsters and villains (princesses & super heroes are ok). I don’t like gravestones and coffins being made into cute holiday decor. Since when was death cute?

I HATE HALLOWEEN.

What I love? The Fall Season. I love bonfires with friends, drinking coffee on a cool fall morning, admiring the multicolored trees on a nice long hike, getting dressed up in nonscary costumes for a party. I love making pumpkin pie, and playing Christmas music way too early in the year.

I LOVE THE FALL.

Do you vote?

victoria-blogI was looking at the news online and came across an article of some crazy stuff going on in Egypt. It is in moments like these, that I am reminded how grateful I am to live in a free country. Among all the complaints, are we doing our part?

Do you vote, I mean really vote?

Sure, we might click a name on a computer to pick our favorite candidate. We may even proudly wear a sticker for a day that proves to each other that we care.

But are we really voting. More importantly, are we speaking?

It can also become disheartening when someone you thought would serve well does not. But throwing your hands up in the air is not the correct reaction, although much easier sometimes.

Or we might feel strongly about an issue but feel our voice does not count. Maybe we think that it has not changed so far, what makes us think we will be the ones…

What if you disagree with how the president is chosen? Speak

What is you disagree with paying taxes all together? Speak

What if you think teachers should be paid more? Speak

What if you hate abortion? Speak

and the list goes on

Don’t feel like your voice is unimportant, you make up the voice of our nation. If no one spoke, our nation would be silent. It is okay and right to figure out what you believe. It is okay to disagree.

Do you vote speak?

Noche de Gala in Carbondale

victoria-blog

The past two years, I have gone to this. They have a live salsa band and there are people everywhere dancing. It is so much fun! They have punch and water provided in the back.

It’s a time that you can get all dressed up (semi formal attire) with a group of friends, your sweetie, or come by yourself.

It’s this Friday, September 23rd, from 8pm- 11pm.

Student Center Ballrooms at SIUC

oh and it’s FREE
